Growing Spice Sweet Pea Seeds in S.I.T Candle Vessels

Congratulations on receiving your S.I.T candle and planting your first seeds of success! Follow the instructions below to grow beautiful Spice Sweet Pea flowers directly in your S.I.T vessel.

1. Preparing Your S.I.T Vessel:

  • Cleaning: Once your candle has burned completely, clean out any remaining wax from the vessel. Wipe it down thoroughly and let it dry.
  • Drainage Setup: Since your S.I.T vessel doesn’t have drainage holes, add a 1-inch layer of small pebbles or stones to the bottom. This will help prevent excess water from pooling and damaging your roots.

2. Planting Instructions:

  • Soaking Seeds: Soak the Spice Sweet Pea seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours to improve germination.
  • Soil: Use a high-quality, well-draining potting mix. Avoid heavy soils like clay.
  • Planting Depth: Plant the seeds 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep in the soil and cover lightly.
  • Spacing: If planting multiple seeds in one S.I.T vessel, space them about 2-3 inches apart.

3. Watering:

  • After planting, water lightly until the soil is evenly moist but not waterlogged.
  • Keep the soil consistently moist during the germination period. Once sprouts emerge, allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings.

4. Sunlight & Placement:

  • Place your vessel in a bright, sunny location. Sweet peas require 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal growth.
  • If growing indoors, place near a south-facing window or use a grow light if natural light is limited.

5. Supporting Your Sweet Peas:

  • As climbing plants, sweet peas will need a support structure as they grow. Insert a small trellis, bamboo stakes, or even decorative branches into the vessel.
  • Gently tie the emerging vines to the support structure using plant ties or soft twine. Check weekly to ensure the vines are climbing up as desired.

6. Fertilizing:

  • Once the seedlings have a few sets of true leaves, feed them with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks.

7. Pruning & Maintenance:

  • Pinch off the top of the seedlings when they reach 6 inches tall to promote fuller growth.
  • Regularly remove faded blooms to encourage more flowering and prevent seed formation.

8. Watering Adjustments:

  • With no drainage holes, it’s essential to avoid overwatering. If you notice the soil staying too wet, reduce the frequency of watering.

9. Temperature & Humidity:

  • Sweet peas thrive in cooler temperatures between 55-65°F (13-18°C). If growing indoors, ensure proper ventilation to avoid excess humidity buildup.

10. Enjoy the Journey:

  • Watch your Spice Sweet Peas grow and enjoy their beautiful blooms and captivating fragrance! Remember, growing plants is a journey of patience and care, just like achieving your goals.
